This past weekend, I had the chance to take Colin to his first Riding on Insulin event. Riding on Insulin was started by professional snowboarder Sean Busby, who lives with Type 1 himself. Holding one-day snowboarding and skiing ‘camps’ across the country, Sean and a great group of volunteers teach kids of various skill levels how to manage their diabetes and have fun on the mountain at the same time.
Colin loved it! He spent the day learning to snowboard, checking his blood sugar multiple times on the hill. And I loved it too. I had the morning to connect with other parents who are walking in the same shoes, some for many more years than me and others for just a few weeks. It was a huge encouragement to me, and I hope I was to them. We’ll definitely return next year. And we’ll be taking the entire family!
Thanks Sean & Mollie for a great day!
